People buying or building their first home in NSW may be eligible for substantial benefits under the First Home Owner Grant Scheme and/or the First Home Plus Scheme.
Under the First Home Owner Grant Scheme eligible NSW first home buyers may be entitled to a $7,000 grant. The grant applies to residential dwellings only and does not apply to vacant land. If you apply for the grant through an authorised agent (such as your lender) the grant is paid to you on settlement. If you apply for the grant privately it will be paid to you following settlement (usually within 2-3 weeks of you lodging your application).
The First Home Plus Scheme provides exemptions or concessions on transfer duty and mortgage duty (stamp duty) for eligible first home buyers.
There are no income or assets tests to qualify for benefits under the First Home Owner Grant Scheme or the First Home Plus Scheme.
